Trustee Treasure

My name is Derya Sulun, and I am from a Muslim background. Regardless, I am thrilled to be part of Ashley’s Hope Charity. I wanted to contribute my untapped expertise to the Charity’s operation, tackle barriers, and create accessibility for support.

I have worked in various roles in the Health and Social care sector for more than 8 years with different teams for the same Local Authority. My current role is within Children’s Services, working with children and young people including those with Autism. Through my work I have a wealth of knowledge of various community services over the years. I am also familiar with the barriers and challenges experienced by the African and Caribbean community for support with the Autism condition. I also have personal experience of family challenges associated with care for loved ones. I know we are all equal in the sight of God. Loving and caring for one another is the key to make our communities better.

I am delighted to see how the work of this Charity extends oversees in Sierra Leone; where there is lack of awareness of the condition and limited services to support children with Autism. Through the activities and support offered by Ashley’s Hope Charity, I will be expressing my passion with this group using a creative approach to empower children and their families with Autism.
